Who are the ACCP? And why do they effect me?
There has been substantial discussion around the topic of accreditation for Neurophysiology Scientists in the NSSA, both informally and throughout board meetings. Previously there has been no established pathway for NSSA members to become ‘accredited’ in their field, and it has been conveyed that many scientists would choose to do so if a pathway were available.
It is the position of the NSSA board that accreditation brings greater professionalism to our field, reinforces our high quality standards, and establishes our field more firmly amongst other health diagnostic fields. The NSSA has been able to partner with an accreditation organisation, the Australian Council of Clinical Physiologists (ACCP). The ACCP was established as a multi-disciplinary organisation with the remit of maintaining a voluntary register of clinical physiologists from different fields working to common principles of high quality diagnostic and professional standards.
This partnership means that membership with the NSSA automatically qualifies you for membership with the ACCP. The registration fee at this time is $150.00, and if you choose to join you would be able to identify yourself professionally as an ‘Accredited Clinical Physiologist.’
Registry with the ACCP is completely voluntary, and choosing not to register will not affect your relationship with the NSSA in any way. The NSSA remains the principle body for your professional development and education.
The NSSA board encourages you to look into the ACCP at http://theaccp.org.au/ for further information.
